Job Summary:
The Youth Counselor will play a crucial role in providing counseling and support services to young individuals within the community. As a member of the Social Sciences department, the Youth Counselor will work closely with at-risk youths, aiming to promote their emotional well-being, personal development, and overall success. This role will require a deep understanding of sociological principles, effective counseling techniques, and a passion for working with young individuals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct individual counseling sessions with at-risk youths to address personal, social, and emotional issues.
2. Develop and implement tailored counseling plans based on the unique needs and circumstances of each client.
3. Collaborate with other professionals, such as psychologists, social workers, and educators, to provide comprehensive support to youths.
4. Facilitate group counseling sessions to promote positive peer interactions, enhance social skills, and foster a sense of belonging.
5. Assess clients' strengths, weaknesses, and potential risks to determine appropriate intervention strategies.
6. Provide crisis intervention services in urgent situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients.
7. Assist youths in identifying and accessing relevant community resources, including educational, vocational, and mental health services.
8. Maintain accurate and confidential client records, progress notes, and case files according to established guidelines.
9. Stay abreast of current trends, research, and best practices in youth counseling and sociology to continually enhance professional knowledge and skills.
10. Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and professional development activities to support personal growth and maintain quality standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
2. Proven experience working with at-risk youths, preferably in a counseling or mentoring capacity.
3. In-depth knowledge of sociological theories, principles, and their application to youth development.
4. Familiarity with various counseling techniques and therapeutic approaches for adolescents.
5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish trust and build rapport with youths and their families.
6. Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all interactions.
7. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address complex social and emotional issues.
8. Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
9. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
10. Proficient computer skills, including the use of electronic databases and case management systems.
